Rippin' in to Mark Tucker

GameBunny rips into Lead Designer Mark Tucker about Chunk #2. It must be seen to be believed! Along the way Mark talks about 2008 and all of the goodies forthcoming.
Here's an excerpt:
gamebunny: You’ve started to add some rudimentary mini-games into DR like Sitar Hero and the Bonus Stage Gnomes. What plans do you have for adding additional and maybe more complex mini-games into Dungeon Runners? Do you think this is a good way to add diversity to a game that’s basically 100% hack-n-slash by giving players something else to do?
Mark Tucker: I do think new mini-games are good to add as long as they still tie into the overall game. A mini-game that does not utilize another game system or offer a reward component that does not tie into the rest of the game is pretty useless.
An example of a new mini-game that will tie into the meta-game is the crafting system we plan to add sometime in the next year. This system will have its own smaller gameplay mechanics that will draw from the current hack ‘n slash game and also reward the player with items that may improve their hack ‘n slash abilities. However, the process of crafting itself might be an entirely different game play mechanic that requires both skill and maybe even a little luck. Since the crafting requires things from the hack ‘n slash game and results in something that will further the hack n’ slash game, I think there would be sufficient tie in and thus create player interest.
